Piriapolis



Piriapolis is a seaside resort of Maldonado's province, located to 100km of Montevideo and to only 30km of Punta del Este.
Piriapolis is located in a beautiful bay that receives the sun and the sea all the year round, and surrounded in a showy horse-shoe of hills, among them, the “San Antonio”, the “Pan de Azucar” and “El cerro del Toro”, making it an ideal place to vacation.
It has a population of 7600 inhabitants, but in summer thousands of tourists visit the city to enjoy his holidays there.
Piriápolis was founded in 1893 by the visionary Francisco Piria, who called it "El Balneario del Porvenir".

Piriapolis has many places to visit, some of them are:
Piria’s Castle: The Piria’s Castle is one of the oldest and finest works of Piriapolis. It was ordered built by Francisco Piria in order to make it their home. Today is a municipal museum worth visiting, which stores much of the history of the area.

“Fuente del Toro”: The “Fuente del Toro” is located at 100 mts. on sea level, on the hill that bears his name.
Placed amidst a thick forest where indigenous species are confused with outsiders.
The height of the bull is life size and weighs about 3,000 kg was brought specially from Paris for the founder, Don Francisco Piria.

“Cerro San Antonio”: This hill is located on the coast, on front the port, from which you can get a magnificent view of the city. On the hill you can visit the “Virgen de los pescadores”, one of the three sources of the city. At the top of the hill is located the San Antonio temple.

“Cerro Pan de Azúcar”: This hill is located a few kilometers from the city. At the foot of it is the reserve of flora and fauna, a place where more than 400 pieces of native species of our territory, including endangered species. At the top is La Cruz del Cerro Pan de Azucar, measures 35 meters high and 12 meters each arm, reaching them by a spiral staircase of 102 steps, there are windows and long benches that height can, appreciate a magnificent view.

“Parque de la Cascada”: Located near the city. There is a waterfall from a height of about 5 meters. Surrounded by a forest of age is a comfortable place for recreation is characterized by its freshness and beauty.

"Fuente de Venus": is one of the three sources of Piriapolis. It stands out as an exact copy of the Greek temple located in the famous "Villa Paravicini" in Italy. The city also offers a good place to go. In the quiet evening you can walk along the coast, or down to the beach, or stroll along the port and fishing there. For the evening you can go to have an ice cream while watching the sunset and at night going to dinner at a restaurant and then go dancing.
